AGM
We are intending to hold this years AGM during the first week of November, exact details to be confirmed. In the meantime if you have anything that you think should be on the agenda then please let a committee member know as soon as possible. Hopefuly a full agenda will be included in the next Trasher. The minutes from last years AGM can be found on the Trasher download page of the club website.

Wavehopper BoaterX
The Pathfinder Youth Canoe Club is holding a race down the Ock followed by a BBQ on 25th September. Contact Dave Surman for details is you would like to take part.

Well, doesn’t time fly by. I’m sure that unlike me, your training schedules are well on target. The format will essentially be the same as the last few years. For those new to the club, this is a short fun event open to all abilities so please join in. Last year there was 7 taking part and I hope there will be even more this year. For those not taking part, please come along to help organise the race and provide support and encouragement to those taking part.

The race will consist of:

• Kayaking
• Cycling
• Running

Again the only restriction is that you use a ‘dancer’ or similar kayak (no wavehoppers!). KCC and PYCC have quite a few of these, but if you have your own, bring it along. Don’t forget to bring your own BA, paddles, bike and spare legs.

For competitors, marshals and spectators, there will be a bring your own BBQ after the race. Charcoal will be provided by the club, just bring along you food, drink and plate. Friends and family are also welcome to come along. As this is a memorial event, entrants and spectators will be asked to pay a voluntary entry fee which will be given to a cancer charity (Cancer Bacup).

Please can you let me know if you plan to enter so I can get an idea of how many there are likely to be. Also let me know if you are available to help run the event and light the BBQ. That’s about it. If you have any questions, give me a call.

This trip has been organised by the folk on the Improver’s Course, but we would be very happy to welcome anyone else who would like to join us for this trip. The more the merrier.

Usual wednesday evening paddle but with 1 star test for folk wanting to take it. Afterwards there will be a BBQ for anyone who would like to join us. This will be FREE for anyone who was on this years beginners courses or who helped out on them. All other KCC folk will have to pay £4 to cover food and a drink.

ANYONE wanting to COME must let Louise Royle or Roger Pass know by 19th June (so we can buy stuff). Please let me know if you have any specific dietry needs (eg veggi).

Blastathon Saturday 12th June

Loadza tacky prizes for weird ‘n’ wild moves. All your favourite old school and new school moves will be featured but could yours be the new move that all Abingdon will be talking about?

Come ‘n’ blast or come ‘n’ watch ‘n’ then barby!!

Afterwards BYO BBQ at the club hut. Charcoal provided, you bring everything else. Prize giving by someone very famous. Overnight camping/dossing possible. Coffee and Croissants for breakfast survivors.

Thanks very much to everyone who helped make this day such a great success. We had a total of 94 people register (39 under 18) and they all enjoyed the activities and the sunshine. We had loads of people wanting to paddle and took out 63 in open canoes and 43 kayaking. It was so warm they were wanting to get wet!

Loads of folk made a point of seeking out the instructors at the end and thanking them. It was great to see so many families enjoying themselves and also tucking into the wonderful food on offer. The sailing club cream teas were a definite hit with the KCC, keeping us sustained throughout the day.

It was great to all the clubs to be working together and I know that some folk got to try out a different sport.

BACKGROUND INFO – This course is designed to introduce novices to a range of skills and knowledge required to begin kayaking. The sessions will cover safety, paddle strokes, equipment, capsizing etc.

VENUE – Wilsham Road, Abingdon between the rowing club and sailing club.

DATES - Tuesdays for six weeks starting 11th May until 15th June OR Thursdays for six weeks starting 13th May until 17th June. (Please choose Tuesday or Thursday). Optional 1 star test and club BBQ after both courses.

TIMES – 6.30 pm to 9.00pm approx.

ABILITY – You should be able to swim 50 metres in your clothes, and over 18

EQUIPMENT – Kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, helmet and spray deck will be provided. Please feel free to bring your own if you have this equipment.

CLOTHING – To kayak in: Neoprene shoes/wet-suit boots (not trainers!), lightweight windproof jacket, tracksuit or thermal trousers (or shorts if warm). Thermal t-shirt, woolly jumper or fleece. YOU SHOULD BE PREPARED TO GET WET IN THESE CLOTHES. Towel and change of clothes.

FACILITIES – NONE – We work from the riverbank, but we do have a toilet.
