Todd Morris Memorial KCC Triathlon 2008
Date: Sunday 7th September
Time: Registration from 10.30, Race at 11.30 (prompt), BBQ at 12.30 (Approx)
Well, doesn’t time fly by. I’m sure that unlike me, your training schedules are well on target. The format will essentially be the same as the last few years. For those new to the club, this is a short fun event open to all abilities so please join in. Last year there was 7 taking part and I hope there will be even more this year. For those not taking part, please come along to help organise the race and provide support and encouragement to those taking part. The race will consist of:
• Kayaking
• Cycling
• Running
The course for each event is highlighted on the map:

Again the only restriction is that you use a ‘dancer’ or similar kayak (no wavehoppers!). KCC and PYCC have quite a few of these, but if you have your own, bring it along. Don’t forget to bring your own BA, paddles, bike and spare legs.
For competitors, marshals and spectators, there will be a bring your own BBQ after the race. Charcoal will be provided by the club, just bring along you food, drink and plate. Friends and family are also welcome to come along.
As this is a memorial event, entrants and spectators will be asked to pay a voluntary entry fee which will be given to a cancer charity (Cancer Bacup).
Please can you let me know if you plan to enter so I can get an idea of how many there are likely to be. Also let me know if you are available to help run the event and light the BBQ.
That’s about it. If you have any questions, give me a call. Let’s hope for good weather.

Best Throw-line Practice Ever…
July 10, 2008…Well it was in the pub anyway. Last week saw KKC’s annual ‘Aunt Sally’ evening in the Fox Inn at Steventon. If you don’t know what Aunt Sally is go here:

A couple of days before that was the end of beginners course BBQ and the official opening of the new KCC Boat Hut. Tony, the oldest serving club member we could find, performed the ribbon cutting duties.
Also after an absence of several decades the stuffed Kingfisher was returned to the club.

‘Improvers’ Course
July 1, 2008
Louise and Ian are running an ‘improvers’ course for 6 weeks commencing August 6th 2008. The aim of this course is to improve moving water and 2 star skills including rescues.
This course is open to KCC members. You should be 1 star level or above.
Places are limited by the availability of equipment. Please let us know if you have your own equipment when you book a place.

Beginners Course BBQ and Hut Opening
July 1, 2008
The beginners courses end on Wednesday evening (2nd July) with the traditional BBQ to which all members are invited (but please bring your own dead items etc for grilling + drink). This year has been unusual in that we have been able to run two beginners courses and participants from both will be taking the BCU One Star test that evening before engaging with the BBQ’s products.
For those new to the club, be advised that the equipment hut was erected at the beginning of the year and its creation followed many years of planning, re-planning, debate, frustration, angst and tearing of hair! Long-time KCC member/paddler and peerless breakfast chef Tony Wilkins has kindly agreed to cut the tape.
