Club update 26th April 2009

Dave H on the Burnt Ranch section of the Trinity River in California 2009 Fees – It’s time to open your wallets again. You should have received an e-mail from the treasurer with a membership form. If you haven’t then please contact the Treasurer at

Trasher – Grab the latest Trasher from the web site as usual. If you can’t remember the password then let me know and I’ll tell you. If you haven’t paid your 2009 fees this will be the last Trasher that you receive.

Also if you’ve been up to anything interesting paddling wise or have anything you want communicating then please consider writing something to be included in the Trasher. Let the Editor know at .

Goings on – If you have any dates for trips and or courses you would like added to the cub calendar then please let me know. The calendar is here if you’re interested.

  • Blastathon – Provisional date is Sat 13th June, keep the date free.
  • Dragon Boats – This year will be on 10th May, volunteers needed to man a stand. Anyone want to put a team together to race should contact Dave Surman.
  • Sunday Morning Paddling – Just a reminder that there is usually a contingent of paddlers out on Sunday mornings starting from the club hut at 0930. If you fancy popping along then check with Neil Murton, Louise Royle or myself to confirm that someone will be their especially if you want access to the club kit.
  • HPP and Tryweryn – Would anyone be interested in a Club trip to HPP or the Tryweryn? Let me know and we’ll try to organise one.

Wednesday Evening Paddling – From the 6th May a duty officer will be at the hut every week from around 6:30pm to perform the following duties:

  • Open the hut.
  • Record details of non-members on temport membership forms
  • Record details of who borrows kit and ensure it is returned.
  • Collect money from those who borrow kit.

Club members and non-members who wish to visit the club, and can paddle to BCU 1* level are welcome to join these sessions. Note the duty officer is not responsible for looking after or coaching any paddlers, though of course they may if they wish to.

On the last Wednesday of every month we will be offering and advertising taster sessions where people who have not paddled before may come along and have a go. The club will ensure these sessions are staffed by a BCU level 2 coach.

I need volunteers to help man these sessions, if you can help please let me know. I will publish a Rota once I have some names. More details can be found here:

Monthly Meeting – Wednesday 6th May in the Fox Inn, Steventon. Come along and see what’s going on.
2009 Beginners Courses – There are two beginners’ courses being run this year by Lucille and Roger Pass. Full details of these can be found here:

There is also a dairy inside the hut for completing any hire of kit in (especially canoes and wavehoppers), please check this and fill it in if you are planning on borrowing any club kit.

Commercial Break – I seem to receive a large number of e-mails advertising coaching course, arranged trips and accommodation. If you’re interested in anything like this let me know and I’ll search through what’s turned and send anything interesting on. Also get a few boat for sale ads as well. Recently we received:
