January Updates

Happy New Year to all. I do hope it will be full of paddling…and hopefully water to allow this…
There is quite a bit packed in this email from reminder of where to find the renewal form, to upcoming dates on trips, pool etc…so bear with me…

Monthly Meeting

The delayed monthly meeting will take place this Wednesday 8th January at 8pm at the Cherry Tree in Steventon.

Pool Session

The next pool session is taking place Thursday 9th January from 8 til 9.30pm at Our Lady’s convent school in Abingdon.
Following pool session will be 23rd January, 6th February and 27th February. These are in the calendar and on the website.

Courses/Coaching

First Aid

Louise has arranged for a first aid course. Details are below

REC (Rescue and Emergency Care) 16 hour First Aid Course.

To be delivered by Leo Hoare. The course will be specific to paddlers and involves a syllabus that relates to injuries and scenarios common within paddle sport. The scenarios will be based on paddling equipment to make them more realistic.Leo has been teaching the REC for paddlers course for over 10yrs and  is a senior REC trainer, able to direct the advanced course and train the trainers.
Dates 22nd and 23rd March 2014.
Location at KCC site Sat in the Sailing Club, Sunday based in the Army Pavilion.
Cost £70. KCC Members £40.
There are a total of 12 places available. Please let Louise (Louise.Royle@googlemail.com) know ASAP if you want to book a place (money in advance). Any place not booked by the end of January will be offered to PYCC and other local paddling clubs.

2 Star Training

Louise is aiming to run a 2 Star training on Thursday nights in April 3rd to 24th round 6pm.

FSRT – Foundation Safety and Rescue Training

Louise is aiming to run an FSRT at the beginning of May – date to be confirmed.

Trips

There are a few trips which are to take place some in the near future some other further afield and later in the year.

Kate Welsh trip

Kate is planning on organising a trip in Wales either at the end of January or early February. Dates have not been set yet, but as soon as I get the news, ill pass it on.

Lake District Trip

Owen is organising a trip in the Lake district on week end of 12-13th April. If interested, let Owen know.

Val Sesia Trip

There are discussion to get a group together to go to Val Sesia during the week of the Val Sesia river festival – from 18th til 25th May.
This is not for everyone and will be mostly running grade 4/5 waters. If interested, let either Simon or myself know.

Austria Trip

Vicky is going to be running a trip to Austria towards the end of July, early August. If you are intersted, please let her know.
There is in Austria opportunity for a range of paddling abilities. Let Vicky know if you are keen.

Upcoming Dates

The next Pool session will be on the 21st November from 8pm at Our Lady’s School in Abingdon. As always personal boats welcomed but must be clean

The next Polo session will be on the 24th November at the Oxford Brookes Sport Centre on the Harcourt Hill Campus. Meeting time at 9am.

KCC Xmas Meal will be on the 13th December at the Nag’s Head Pub in Abingdon.Menu If you are interested please let me know as spaces are being taken. I am also starting to collect menu choices and money.

Gene17

Some of us are heading down to the Dart for the Gene17 week end. This is not a club trip, and people should be confident on grade 3 rivers. If you want to come along, you will need to sort accommodation or alternatively join the few of us camping. Let either Simon or myself know.

Sunday Paddling

This has restarted, so if you want a local friendly paddle, please let us know in advance so aas to ensure someone can access the hut.

Any Other week end

Is there anyone who has some paddling days or week end planned and who is looking for some company? if so let everyone know. It may also be time to schedule a week end to organise in January. Kate are you doing your Teifi trip next year?

 

September Updates

Monthly Meeting

Hey all, please note that this wednesday is the monthly meeting. Please come and have a paddle and then meet up at the pub to catch up on the upcoming trips. As usual we will meet round 8.30 at the Cherry Tree in Steventon
For those wanting to come to Tony’s Dart week end, Tony will be most likely at the pub so you can bring your forms and money…

Upcoming Trips and dates:

Because of some clashing dates, the triathlon will this year has to be postponed. Date to be advised.

Week end of the 21-22 September, there is the Piranha fest at the Tryweryn. I believe some people are planning on going. Louise may be the best person to contact.

Tony’s Dart week end 12-13th October – book with Tony

Fred’s Scotland trip for the hardened white water paddler will be on the week from 26th October to 2nd November.

Pool Session

Date have now been booked for this. Sessions for KCC will be on Thursday night, from 8pm to 9.30pm on the following days
10th October
7th November
21th November
5th December

Upcoming AGM

Date has not yet been fixed, but will be early November. At this time, in order to prepare this year’s presentation, please do send me photos, comments, video or any other material you would like to share.
I will pick up struff from Facebook group, but not everything is on there, so I appeal to anyone who would like to share to send me photos and comments about it so I can include them.

Also, if there are a few people who could volunteer to prepare some food for the evening, that would be great.
